The New Diet... Clothing Diet?
With many of us admitting to having garments in our wardrobe that have not seen the light of day since we brought them back home from the shop; reducing the number of items in your closet should be an easy task.
A Recent survey for a British Insurance company found that we only wear a third of the items in our wardrobes but choosing what to keep and what to pack up for the charity shop can be a challenge.
As with every new diet some people advocate a very restricted number of items. Over the last few years the 6 items or less, or Sixer as they call themselves have put themselves through 30 days with only 6 items of clothing. If you fancy finding out more have a look at the website and facebook page.

If however this is not for you here are a few tips on how to de-clutter your wardrobe:
Start by putting your favorite items to one side. Favorites are any items that you wear at least once a fortnight in a given season. This is not about restyling yourself, it’s just a clear up so no need to agonize about whether the clothes work for you or not.
With what is left select the items that can be given away, sold or exchanged.
Then start making up combination of garments that work together. You can put them in spate piles or if you have plenty of time try them on and take a photo of yourself, that way you will create go-to combinations and save yourself a lot of time in the mornings.
Identify key items that are used in a lot of combinations and make sure that look their best. If they need repairing, cleaning or are starting to look tired it might be time to invest in a replacement.
My last peice of advice is, when selecting your final wardrobe or shopping for new pieces, think multi use. Some garments can be worn for different purposes or different ways. Scarves make great tops and look out for dresses that can be worn as skirts like the great Bandeau Dress at In One Clothing. click here to see the Bandeau Dress
The key thing with any diet is to stick to it so enjoy the extra time you will get from spending less time worrying about what to wear and become more creative with fewer pieces!
